Shows the building erected in 1869 for the Philadelphia Saving Fund Society. Gracing the southwest corner of 7th and Walnut Streets, the italianate-style building was designed by architect Addison Hutton. Also shows early automobiles.

Halftone reproduction of a photograph showing the famous PSFS building at the intersection of 12th and Market Streets. Opened in 1932 as the headquarters of the Philadelphia Savings Fund Society, the 36-story skyscraper was designed in the International style by architects George Howe and William Lescaze. A National Historic Landmark, the building is considered the first modern skyscraper in the United States.
It was converted into a Loews Hotel in 2000.

Built in 1932 for the headquarters of the Philadelphia Savings Fund Society, the architecturally significant building was designed by George Howe and William Lescaze in the International style. It is the first modern skyscraper to be built in the United States, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The company's initials, sitting atop the 36-story building, have become a Philadelphia icon.
