Halftone reproduction of a photograph looking east from the City Hall Tower. The famous PSFS Building is shown on the right. Built in 1932 for the headquarters of the Philadelphia Savings Fund Society, the architecturally significant building was designed by George Howe and William Lescaze in the International style. It is the first modern skyscraper to be built in the United States, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The company's initials, sitting atop the 36-story building, have become a Philadelphia icon.
