Depicts a well-tended formal garden with the library and reading room beyond, in the grounds of the Friends Asylum for the Insane. Friends Hospital, as it is known today, was built in 1813 on 100 acres north of Frankford. It was the nation's first private psychiatric hospital.

Depicts the building in which the Homeopathic Hospital of Pennsylvania opened in 1852. Situated on Chestnut Street near the Schuylkill River, the hospital remained in operation for about two years when it was closed for want of support.
