Halftone reproduction of photograph showing the naval asylum and its grounds. Built between 1826 and 1833, the Greek Revival-styled building was designed by notable American architect, William Strickland. The Navy commissioned the building to house retired sailors.

Halftone reproduction of of the photograph showing the building on north 22nd Street which housed the Woman's Hospital. Founded in 1861, the hospital provided clinical facilities for students from the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania. It was also the first known chartered school for nursing in the nation. The facility closed in 1964 following its merger with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
