Halftone reproduction of a photograph showing an exterior view of the buildings and grounds of the historic hospital. Founded in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond, it was the first hospital in the United States. Designed by architect Samuel Rhoads, the hospital's Pine Building (seen through the trees in the photograph) is considered one of the finest examples of Colonial and Federal architecture in the city.
