Notes:

Shows exterior view of Christ Church Hospital and grounds west of the Schuylkill River, beyond the Park.  Built between 1856 and 1861 after designs by architect John M. Gries, the structure was notable for its tower which could be seen rising above the trees for great distances. The institution was founded in 1772 with an endowment left by Dr. John Kearsley, physician and minister of the Protestant Episcopal Church, to support widowed members of the church.  The building is now part of the Kearsley Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
