Shows the Indigent Widows and Single Women's Society building and grounds fronting Chestnut Street in West Philadelphia. The Ralston House, as the building became known, was founded in 1817 to provide a refuge for needy women. The present building was built in 1889 with additions in 1980. The building was closed as a residence in the 1980s and the organization became known as the Ralston Center and houses their administrative offices and is used for activities and office space by different organizations including the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
