Notes:

Item 1, top:  The Chester waterfront on the Delaware River was a major center for mills and factories in the 1700s-1800s.  By 1875, a shipyard greatly enlarged by industrialist John Roach, located at then-Hayes & Front Street (today, 101-117 Hayes Street), began producing a huge output of passenger ships, cargo ships, tankers, and warships--the US Navy being its biggest contractor.  This 1875 image depicts the heavy river traffic at this location, and the many factories and ironworks along the shoreline.  Engraving by James W. Lauderbach for an unidentified publication, 20.5 x 11.5 cm, 1875.

Item 2, bottom:  Image of the Philadelphia Lazaretto, a quarantine station and hospital built in 1799, following the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793.  Located at today's 97 Wanamaker Avenue, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, as both the oldest and the last surviving hospital of its type in the country.  It was closed as a hospital in the mid-1890s, and repurposed in 2005 as administrative offices for Tinicum Township.  The photograph shows the lengthy bridge/walkway that led from Lazaretto Point to the hospital entrance.  Reproduction of a photograph for an unidentified publication, 20.5 x 13.5 cm, undated, (most likely c. 1940s).
