Item pdcc01261, top [image dimensions 16.5 cm x 16.5 cm]:
Section of an unidentified panoramic business directory of 1867. Shows the facades of 426-432 Walnut Street. Signage indicates the Penn Building (430), tenanted by Hartford Livestock Insurance Co. Other business identified are Smith Martin & Co. (432), Owens & Co., and Holcomb Silver Co. (428). Also shows a horsecar passing by with its route along Chestnut and Walnut Streets emblazoned on its side panel; a horse-drawn carriage with a man and a woman inside; a horse and cart entering a passage; well-dressed people talking on the sidewalk, others on the steps in front of the entrances.

Postcard view of Broad Street looking towards City Hall from Spruce Street. Shows the 21- story North American Building on the right. The historic high-rise was designed by James H. Windrim as headquarters of the newspaper, The North American. When it was completed in 1900 it was the tallest building in the city, until the completion of City Hall the following year.

Depicts the wide expanse of Broad Street with buildings lining the west side, below Sansom Street. Shows a partial view of the Academy of Natural Sciences on the extreme right. Across Sansom is the site of the Union League Clubhouse which was built 1864-65.
