Halftone reproduction of a photograph showing Broad Street looking north from Walnut. Shows City Hall with its tower still under construction, and the Girard Life Insurance, Annuity and Trust Company. Street traffic includes a carriage drawn by two horses in the foreground and horse-drawn omnibus approaching in the distance.

Halftone reproduction of a photograph of Broad Street, looking north from Girard Avenue. Shows people on the sidewalk and crossing the street in this fashionable neighborhood of grand residences. Also shows a horse-drawn omnibus making its way up the street and a wagon decorated with advertising making a turn onto Girard Avenue. Just beyond the avenue on the left is the mansion owned by P. A. B. Widener, a wealthy businessman who invested in public transit systems. Visible across the street is the residence of W. L. Elkins. Together, the notable Philadelpians founded the Philadelphia Traction Company, and created public transit systems in major cities in the United States.
