Item pdcc01223, top left [image dimensions 12.5 cm x 15.5 cm]:
Depicts a scene on South Broad Street looking north from above Walnut. In the distance City Hall is shown, its tower still under construction. The Union League building is visible on the left, and on the right can be seen the classical columns of Chambers' Presbyterian Church. In the foreground, a man runs to avoid a horse-drawn fire engine rushing to a fire.

Item pdcc01224, second down [image dimensions 15.4 cm x 15.7 cm]:
Depicts a scene looking north on Broad Street from City Hall. The Masonic Temple dominates the view on the right. Completed in 1873, the Temple was designed in the Norman style by the 27 year-old James H. Windrim. The towers in the distance, at Arch Street, are those of the First Baptist Church (left) and the Arch Street Methodist Church. The foreground is busy with horse-drawn carriages and carts and well-dressed people.

"Store fronts in this busy thoroughfare offer many curiosities designed to attract passersby. Northward from a point outside the present Lit Brothers Department Store, a menagerie of ornamental signs is visible: an ostrich on the drapery store, and beyond it an elephant; the figure of Justice atop the cupola in the distance, and the eagles of a furniture company and Espen's lace emporium."--OPEP, p. 84.
