Notes: Item 1, center: Newspaper article giving a short history of John Penn's house "Solitude", illustrated with a photograph of the building as it appeared in the 1860s. John Penn, grandson of William, built "Solitude" as a country seat on the banks of the Schuylkill River in 1784. The house now stands within the grounds of the Philadelphia Zoo.
