Notes: Item 1, top: Photograph of the Bourse Building, built to house a commodities exchange founded by George E. Bartol, a grain and commodities exporter. Built in 1895, it was one of the first steel-framed building in the United States. The redstone facade was designed in the Beaux-Arts style by G.W. & W.D. Hewitt. Running the length of the block between Fourth and Fifth Street, the historic building houses a food court and shopping complex. Shows horse-drawn carriages parked in the surrounding streets. Notes: Item 2, bottom: Photograph of the entrance to the Art Club, an influential organization formed to advance the knowledge and love of the Fine Arts. Located at 220 S. Broad Street, the building was designed by Frank Miles Day, It began operating in 1890 as a social club and a major venue for art exhibits. The club dissolved in 1940 and the building was demolished in 1975-76. Photographic print, n.d. 14.9 x 9.9cm.
