Notes: Item shows the Exchange building from the intersection of Walnut and Dock Streets. The curved facade of the rear of the building is an adaptation of the Greek Revival style that architect William Strickland used to harmonize with the arch of the road. The Exchange, which opened in 1834, functioned as a commercial and financial hub. Girard Bank, formerly the First Bank of the United States, is depicted in the distance, on the right.
