Item 1, top: Image of the Seminary of St. Charles Borromeo, at 100 E. Wynnewood Road, Wynnewood, PA. The seminary was founded in 1832, becoming the oldest Roman Catholic institute of higher learning in Pennsylvania. After several Center City locations, it finally moved in 1871 to this sprawling Wynnewood campus designed by architect Samuel Sloan. Reproduction of a drawing, 23 x 14 cm, undated.
Item 2, bottom: Image of the Clermont Seminary, founded in 1804 by brothers John Thomas and Charles Carre. It was a private boys' boarding school, located at (then) Hart & Nicetown Lanes, on an elevated area referred to as "Mount Clermont," between Frankford and Germantown (today, estimated to be in the vicinity of E. Luzerne & D Streets). Engraving, 19 x 12 cm, undated (but c. 1810).
