Item 1, top: Image of the Brooke Hall for Girls and Young Ladies, at S. Lemon & W. Jefferson Streets, Media, PA. Founded by Pennsylvania politician Hugh Jones Brooke in 1856, this finishing school for young women eventually became a hotel in 1914, and was demolished in 1956. Engraving for and unidentified publication, 14.5 x 10 cm, undated.
Item 2, center: Image of the North Broad Street Select School for Young Men and Boys, located a the NW corner of Broad Street & Fairmount Avenue. Founded on Quaker educational principles, c. 1833; demolish date unknown. Engraving for an unidentified publication, 19 x 12 cm, undated.
Item 3, bottom: Image of a gig (a light, two-wheeled, horse-drawn carriage), owned by Philadelphia financier and philathropist Stephen Girard. Engraving for an unidentified publication, 10 x 10 cm, undated.
