Image Item 1, top left: Clipping from an unidentified source features an illustration of the 2nd Street streetscape. The accompanying caption reads, "The Hall of the Philosophical Society, on Second Street--1710-1785". In this scene, side and front-gabled and gambled-roof rowhomes line the streetscape. The fronting sidewalk is peppered by men, women, and children. In the street appear Native Americans, a workman and a horse attached to a loaded cart, a man on horseback and several other male onlookers. 11.43 x 10.16 cm.
Item 2, top right: Photographic reproduction clipped from an unknown source. Image features the home of the American Philosophical Society, located on the east side of South 5th Street, adjacent to Independence Square. Caption reads, "Independence Square. Philosophical Society. J.S. Bache & Co., Bankers. American Philosophical Society, Fifth, Between Chestnut and Walnut. The oldest scientific society in America. Founded in 1743. Franklin was its first president." 11.43 x 10.16 cm.

Item 4, bottom left: Clipping from an unknown source features an illustration by C.C. Cooper, Jr., of one of the American Philosophical Society's interior spaces. Prominent in the foreground of this rendering is a bust of Benjamin Franklin, the Society's first president. Through an open doorway, one looks past this bust into an ornate room filled with books, a grandfather clock, and both a writing desk and chair. Caption reads, "The Philosophical Society".
