Centre Square Water Works at Broad & Market Streets. Designed by Benjamin Latrobe in 1801, the marble structure was used as the water distribution tank until 1829, when it was torn down. Shown is the eastern front of the pump house with the fountain of the Spirit of the Schuylkill, carved by William Rush. A covered wagon stands on the road nearby.
