"While the Masonic Temple was being constructed, the ground in Center Square was cleared to make ready for the new City Hall. Just to the right of the Masonic Temple is the first building occupied by LaSalle College at the corner of Juniper and Filbert Streets. The railroad cars are on tracks leading to the freight depot, seen at the right."--OPEP, p. 160.

Shows Penn Square, at Broad & Market Streets cleared for the erection of City Hall, 1872. The masonic temple is shown under construction. To the right is the Pennsylvania Freight Station. The white spire is on the Arch Street Methodist Church.
