Halftone reproduction of a sketch showing horse carriages racing past Turner's Road House. People on the porch of the inn and standing by the roadside, are shown waving at the exciting scene. The road house was a famous hostelry from 1856 to 1888. Situated at the junction of Penrose Ferry Road and Sheaf Lane, it adjoined the Point Breeze racecourse.

Half-tone reproduction of a photograph of the "Punch Bowl" roadhouse on North Broad Street near the junction with Diamond. In the late 1860s, the "Bowl", as it was known, became popular when people sat on its elevated porches to watch the horse-racing up Broad Street and out Lamb Tavern Road.
