Source: Print and Picture Collection
Notes:
Halftone reproduction of a photograph showing a side view of the historic inn, situated just across Poquessing creek from the city in Bucks County. An artist's sketch of a fully laden stage coach being driven at full speed, bottom left, illustrates the importance of the red Lion as a relay station for New York stage coaches during the 18th century. Also shows, in the distance, the stone arch bridge crossing the creek. Located on Kings Highway (later Bristol Pike), the hostelry began operations from about 1726. It was destroyed by fire in 1991.
