Color illustration from the June 1936 issue of Fortune magazine showing a scene outside the Broad Street Station. The "Chinese Wall" was a long one-story viaduct that carried trains of the Pennsylvania Railroad into the station.. The structure, with its pedestrian unfriendly archways effectively divided the city in two and stymied the development of its western side.
