Illustration of famous race between two legendary race-horses which took place at the Hunting Park Course, June 2nd. 1853. "Taconey" and "Mac" were great rivals. In this race "Taconey" was victorious. The crowd cheers excitedly, while a small group in the foreground seem busy making bets with each other. A partial view of a wooden grandstand is visible at left.

This anonymous cartoon depicts the fight between Vermont Representative Matthew Lyon and Roger Griswold of Connecticut on the floor of the Congress Hall after an insult thrown at Griswold by Lyon. Griswold wields a cane and kicks Lyon, who raises a pair of fireplace tongues. The interior of Congress Hall is shown with other members looking on. Those identified on the margins are Speaker, Jonathan Dayton and Clerk Jonathan W. Condy (both seated), and Rev. Ashbel Green (shown in profile on the extreme left.)
Below the image are the verses: "He in a trice struck Lyon thrice / Upon his head, enrag'd sir, / Who seiz'd the tongs to ease his wrongs, / And griswold thus engag'd, sir."
Inscribed at lower right : Congress Hall, in Philadelphia, February 15th 1798. S. E. Corner 6th. & Chestnut Street.
