Halftone reproduction of an original photograph.
Image shows a cricket match in progress at the Germantown Cricket Club. Founded in 1854, the club was incorporated in 1880. The clubhouse was designed and built in 1891 by the prominent architectural firm McKim, Mead & White and is a certified National Historic Landmark. Although undated, the photograph was taken prior to 1903 when wings were added to the clubhouse. Today, tennis is the preferred sport and takes precedence over cricket matches.
