Newspaper reproduction from Rae's Philadelphia Pictorial Directory and Panoramic Advertiser. Published in 1851 by Julio H. Rae, the commercial panorama depicted buildings on both sides of Chestnut Street between Second and Tenth Streets in sixteen lithographed plates.

This section includes a sketch of the first Chestnut Street Theatre. Other businesses and buildings named are : Schenks Pulmonk Syrup;  Bolivar House;  N.Y. Journal of Fine Arts Agency;  D. Robinson Bookseller and Stationer;  Dr. Jayne's Philadelphia Arcade; Dr. Davidson's Arcade Baths.

Other business identified are, from left, J Searle (Looking Glasses),  W. H. Carryl (Curtain Store), Joseph M. Wilson (Booksellers and Stationers), and Mustin Trimming Store.

The middle of the panorama shows the location of Welch's National Theatre. It took its name from the National Theatre, the building which it had leased for twelve years.
