The illustration prominently features ladies and gentlemen in elegant evening dress inside the vestibule of the Academy of Music. In the foreground a lady wears a long ruffled bustle gown. Her male escort is wearing a top hat and dress coat. Also shown is a man wearing a monocle and ladies wearing shawls. The ladies' hairdressing is also carefully described. Note they are all wearing their hair "up" in various ways.
Architectural details of the vestibule are delineated, particularly in the decoration of the metal lighting standards and chandeliers.
