This particular Bible has a list of family registry with dates from 1850 onwards to 1902 written on the blank front and back end-papers. A floral pattern decorates the inside of the front and back covers. This Bible is bound in full contemporary pebble-grained Levant black morocco leather. The Bible is held closed by a metal clasp (possibly silver), which features an embossed design of lines and starts.
Clasps were used on books since the beginning of the use of codex. Clasps from the Netherlands and Germany typically hold the book closed by the upper (top) cover, whereas English and French clasps typically attach to the lower (bottom) cover.
