Captain Story, Pirate is an example of a Diime Novel. Dime Novels were cheap publications often selling for less than a dime. Nick Carter was the pseudonym used by the many authors who wrote stories for the book series. Dime novels were popular from the late 19th through the early 20th century. These books usually had flashy covers and are believed to have influenced modern book design and production. The last true dime novel series by Street and Smith publishers was in 1912.
