View shows an isolated house in rural surroundings owned by Israel Pemberton, 1715-1779. A wealthy merchant with a strong leaning towards philanthropy, Israel worked for peaceful negotiations with the Indians and strived for their protection and humane treatment. A member of the Pennsylvania Assembly, he resigned in 1756 in opposition to the Indian War. He was eventually imprisoned in 1777 for his pacific beliefs.
