View shows a Black woman sitting on a wooden bench cutting apples in a pan. A spinning wheel is close by the large fireplace, which contains two large pots. A jug and some decorative plates sit atop the mantel. Hanging from the fire surround is a pair of bellows and a bed-warming pan.

Depicted is the summer-house on the property of Enoch Edwards near Frankford where legend has it on July 8th., 1776 Thomas Jefferson and some members of Congress celebrated the passage of the Declaration of Independence.
