Notes:

The Merion meeting house is the second oldest Friends meeting house in the United States. Built in1695 by Robert Owen along with other prominent Welsh settlers it was enlarged in1714 and remains an active place of worship today. Situated on Montgomery Avenue close to the city line, Robert Owen supervised the erection of the first building, which was partly of logs. William Penn was a frequent preacher here, and it was in this wild retreat Robert Owen passed the few remaining years of his life pursuing the various duties of Magistrate, member of Assembly, planter and preacher.
