Notes:
Samuel Mickle (1684-1765) was a Philadelphia merchant and a member of the Common Council from 1732 until his death. Benjamin Franklin remembers him in his autobiography as a misanthrope prone to making disparaging remarks about Philadelphia, and one who had questioned the young Franklin's wisdom in opening a printing-house in the city.
