Item 1, left:  Caption reads, "Chestnut Street of Old, Its Buildings and People When the Past Century Was Young."  Detailed article about the businesses, hotels, and mansions on Center City's "great thoroughfare" of the the mid-1800s--i.e., Chestnut Street, from 2nd to 15th Streets.  Text for an article for an unidentified newspaper, 12.5 x 28.5 cm, undated. 

Item 2, top right: Image from "Can You Recall This Bit of Old Philadelphia?," a regular feature of the Evening Public Ledger.  Shown is a business at the SE corner of 2nd & Chestnut Streets.  Reproduction of an 1870 photograph for the Evening Public Ledger, 12 x 16 cm, c. 1925.

Item 3, bottom right:  Image of the Jones' Hotel, on the 600 block of Chestnut Street.  It was opened in 1833 and eventually closed by 1860; the exact demolish date is unknown, but it was gone by 1920. Reproduction of a photograph for an unidentified newspaper, 9.5 x 15.5 cm, undated.
