Letters Reveal Glimpse into the Very Private Life of J.D. Salinger

By Shannon G RSS Fri, February 12, 2010

Salinger fan? Curious about the self-imposed recluse’s life? The Morgan Library and Museum in Manhattan is preparing for an exhibition of 11 letters written by J.D. Salinger to his friend—and the artist behind Catcher in the Rye’s book jacket—E. Michael Mitchell. The Museum has been keeping the letters under wraps since 1998 and now, after the author’s death, is planning to go public with the letters’ contents, which will give readers an intimate look into the very private life of Salinger.

If you could learn anything about J.D. Salinger's life, what would it be? His ideas for books? Where he found inspiration? His thoughts on contemporary fiction? Share below!
