Henry Charles Bukowski was a prolific writer, completing thousands of poems, hundreds of short stories, and six novels during his lifetime. In the Fifties and Sixties, he worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. After leaving his position, Bukowski completed his first novel, Post Office. He is a favorite among artists and musicians, having inspired the likes of Tom Waits, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Modest Mouse, and Buck 65. Bukowski's gravestone reads: "Don't Try."
