Whether you are writing your first resume and cover letter, need a resume makeover, or would like to learn about online job seeking resources, we're here to help you!

If your career is in a slump, you're looking to change jobs, or just want to learn some new skills, read our 7 Tips to Advance Your Career Now!

1. Update your LinkedIn profile
When prospective employers Google your name to learn about you, your LinkedIn profile is likely to show up in the top search results. The first thing people see when they look at your profile is your picture. Make sure it looks professional by getting a free headshot at the BRIC on most Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

2. Take online continuing education courses
Polish your resume by completing classes in coding, web design, QuickBooks, business management, fundraising, project management, marketing, and so much more! Access thousands of classes for free with your library card from our Digital Learning Portal like Lynda.com and Universal Class.

3. Have your resume reviewed by an impartial audience
Request an appointment with our staff to have your resume reviewed. Sometimes a pair of fresh eyes is all it takes to revamp a resume. We also host professional managers to review resumes and make recommendations. Access Brainfuse to upload your resume for review within 24 hours or live chat with an instructor from the comfort of your home or favorite coffee shop.

4. Get comfortable promoting yourself and perfecting your pitch
Use the Pitch Corner in the BRIC to practice and record your elevator pitch in front of a video camera. The space offers a video camera, tripod, and backdrop. Staff can help you set up and get started. Your video will be emailed to you within two business days. The Pitch Corner is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., as well as the first Wednesday of each month from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

5. Conduct a strategic job search to save time and maximize your results
Access our electronic resources and online databases geared towards job seekers and career changers such as Reference USA, Glassdoor, and Career Cruising. Learn how to generate industry specific lists of organizations based on location, size, sales volume, and more. Use the list to delve deeper into the organizations to ensure they fit your ideal company culture. Plus, prepare for interviews, explore careers, prepare for occupational exams, and more! The Regional Foundation Center prepares an extensive list of nonprofit jobs throughout the region.

6. Practice your interview skills
Visit the Pitch Corner to practice your interview skills. Pro tip: bring a friend and take turns being interviewed! Stop by the Workplace first to get a list of the most commonly asked interview questions. The Workplace also hosts mock interview sessions several times a year.

7. Network
Networking is the best way to gain professional contacts. You never know who you might meet or who your contacts might know that can help you land your dream job. You can network online via LinkedIn and in person. Try joining a few local Meetups. The BRIC hosts special events and classes where people across industries network and trade tips. Our events are a great place to practice networking and meet new and interesting people. Check out our nonprofit, business, and career events!
