Nora Ephron discussed her new book, I Feel Bad About My Neck , at the Free Library on Thursday, September 21, at 8:00 p.m. She took a few moments to chat with the Free Library Blog.

1.What role have libraries played in your life?

“The Beverly Hills Public Library was my library when I was growing up. It was a divine place, with a huge children's book section and open stacks (of course). I used to ride my bicycle there and back at least once a week in the summertime.”

2. What was your favorite childhood book?

“My favorite childhood books were the Oz books by L. Frank Baum, but the books I read from the library that I most clearly remember were the Betsy-Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace.”

3. Who are the three authors you think everyone should be required to read-which books would you start with?

“Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen”

4. If you couldn’t write, what other job would you like to have?

“I would prefer to go on writing, thank you, but if I were in the federal witness program, I could certainly work as a short-order cook. Although my chopping skills (such as they were) are degenerating.”
