Art book. Gorgeous and high-quality, but extremely thin on commentary.

My opinion is jaded by the fact that this is sort of a capstone issue and I haven't finished the steps leading to it.

If it truly is the capstone, a worthy one it is.
 

An interesting arc on its own, but a complete hijacking of the 'World's Finest' brand.

Titled "Hornblower", but more accurately the story belongs to Lt. Bush as it is told from his viewpoint and so we follow his thoughts and actions in the main. Even relegated to a secondary narrative role though, Hornblower is the driving force to the story.

Three pieces collected - An unfinished novel, a short story from early in HHs career and the coda to his adventures.

This pertains to the third novel in the collection:

A slower read than others in the series, and oddly disjointed - more of a story collection than a novel - with no real connection to either the preceding or following volume.

A good story in an uncommon setting (The Baltic during the Napoleonic Wars), but for a series that made its bones with naval adventure there is far to little of that here.

What began very promisingly - Hornblower vs mutineers - devolved after the first third into another land-based story and in the final 50 pages turned downright maudlin, destroying almost all respect for the character.

Meh origin story blending in new characters with established ones; unfortunately the new ones are not well fleshed out or detailed yet and the old ones aside from the Martian Manhunter are either decidedly B-list or woefully underused. Combine this with another universe spanning plot and stupidly overpowered adversaries that echoes the worst of the Green Lantern storylines and you can't hold out much hope for the series.

Excellent continuation of the series with the right dash of humorous sidekicks

Four volumes in and still maintaining the expected style - pretty amazing fora DC publication.

Stylistically consistent and entertaining.

An interesting re-imagining of the traditional Marvel Characters. It is a bit hard to read for the casual fan unfamiliar with the characters secret identities and several of the characters - while artistically well rendered - were either so sparingly used as to be unmemorable or too nearly identical to another major figure, confusing the storyline.
