At long last, the time has come... If you’ve been longing to get out of the house after a long snow and ice bound end to winter, Free Library of Comic Con (FLoCC) is a great chance to go out and get your geek on!
This year's event kicks off outside of Parkway Central Library at 9:45 a.m. with a performance from the Drexel Dragon Jedi, swinging lightsabers at each other in a wonderfull display of swordsmanship.
In the lobby, we’ll have artists and vendors from Philly and beyond, including New York Times bestselling author Box Brown, My Little Pony cover artist Diana Leto, and local publishers Kelly Phillips and Josh O’Neil of Dirty Diamonds and Locust Moon Press, respectively.
The auditorium on the ground floor will be home to panel discussions, featuring cartoonist and educator Matt Madden talking about his life and work, a group of Philly-based artists discussing diversity in comics, an hour of improv, and a cosplay contest to end the day!
I am so jealous of the children lucky enough to check out our Children’s Department this Saturday. Children’s events kick off at 10:00 a.m. with a "block party" (a party where they play with blocks… haha, get it?), face painting by local artist Dre Grigoropol, an opportunity to get your photo taken with Spider-Man, a My Little Pony drawing workshop with real-life My Little Pony artist Diana Leto… followed by then another round of painting faces with Dre.
Upstairs, scattered across our various subject departments on the second floor, a few breakout sessions will take place including work from Philadelphia Stories, Dirty Diamonds, Locust Moon Press, Beehive Books, and Cosplay Philadelphia.
The 4th floor is for teens only! Up here you’ll find the gaming room and a few workshops on manga and character design, character development, storytelling from life, and how to make your own comic zines.

All day long, our Music Department will have listening parties featuring music from various movie soundtracks like Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
Once you’re done con-ing, let’s not forget that this is a library! Philbrick Hall (where our main fiction section resides) will have a big display of staff-selected comics and graphic novels for you to check out—free with your library card!
On top of all that, you will have the lovely opportunity to meet hundreds of people just like yourself—people with a passion for comics and all things pop culture!
The Comic Con is free, the library is free, and the experience is one-of-a-kind!
See you Saturday!
The Third Annual Free Library of Comic Con will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2017, 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. at Parkway Central Library.
