Went in blind based on the author's reputation and well worth it.  The story itself is atmospheric and tense, with an air of mystery around the central character that isn't revealed so early as to take the drive out of the plot.

  • Tight little island. by Mackenzie, Compton,
    ★★★☆☆

A quaint, dryly amusing, and historically interesting novel, but not a very good one. The details of life in wartime Britain are fascinating, the Gaelic expressions (with handy glossary and pronunciation guide) and humor were a treat, but the story as a whole has no driving force, and the lack of impetus and direction results in an ending that is unusual and unsatisfactory.

Enjoyable, but falling into the lazy trap of 'everyone's history is connected' to a ridiculous extent.

Classic vaudville and Broadway routines transferred from stage to screen.  Particualrly enjoyable are the Bridge scene and Zeppo and Harpo's musical interludes, along with the 'special effects' when Groucho plays shooting gallery among the guests.

A concept that defied credulity even when originally created, but suspend your disbelief and enjoy the creepy settings, performances and ambiance. The only parts that don't stand up are a few truly horrid visual special effects and a rather abrupt ending.

Yet another boring rehash and reinvention of a superhero's origins - this time corrupted with a host of personality flaws in the titular hero and poor art to boot.

One of the best of the old expeanded universe novels. Stovertakes what would have beena standard slice-em-up in a lesser authors hands and makes it into a carachter study about Jedi philosophy and the nature of evil (while still including plenty of Slice-em-up scenes to keep the story moving).
