In French and English a great historical film on the War in Algeria:

"The Battle of Algiers," a great film by the young Italian director Gillo Pontecorvo, exists at this level of bitter reality. It may be a deeper film experience than many audiences can withstand: too cynical, too true, too cruel and too heartbreaking. It is about the Algerian war, but those not interested in Algeria may substitute another war; "The Battle of Algiers" has a universal frame of reference.

Borderline figures prominently in society and it is no longer a nefarious disease thanks to the accurate coverage of symptoms and diagrams displaying how BPD fits in among other disorders. This book breaks down to bystanders or family what specific mind-frames or repetitive thoughts someone who is Borderline might experience . Numbness and other hard to explain feelings are broken down in their specificity. Borderline Personality Disorder is much better understood today than it was historically and it is often confused with Bipolar. It is best treated with medicine and therapy and taken seriously.

This "story about a teen's adjustment to a life-changing event" is one of a kind in it's genre for dealing with disability and accomodation. After a horse riding accident that damages her eye sight a young girl gets a baby minature horse who is trained like a guide dog to help as her companion as she deals with sudden onset blindness. This is a short but super sweet film that may help discuss injury with a young child. Another good kids movie dealing with horses and blindness is a much older film Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken.

    “Urgent, necessary reading.”

    – Kirkus Reviews

“A momentously thorough account of President Trump’s alarmingly chaotic first year in office. . . . This precise and fiery indictment of an unstable, unethical president concludes with a call for us to defend our democracy.”

    – Booklist

"It’s Even Worse Than You Think shines a light on actions by the White House and Trump-appointed federal officials on climate change, job creation, taxes, race, immigration, and foreign affairs, among other topics, that should concern – and alarm – all Americans."

    – Glenn Altschuler, The Huffington Post

“Wolff’s news-breaking and news-stretching bestseller has become the political book of the moment...But it is at best a snapshot, already blurred and dated…Fortunately, other authors and analysts are looking past the news alerts and war stories to examine President Trump’s longer-term impact on the nation’s norms and governance — on American democracy itself… In “It’s Even Worse Than You Think,” journalist David Cay Johnston diagnoses the Trump administration as a “kakistocracy,” or government by the least qualified and most venal among us.”

    ★★★★★

This book is a great summary of where we stand with the development of drugs, chemicals, and genetically modified foods. At a time when we desperately need to reconcile our relationship with the fast development of so much technology and substances...why not try this read about how several chemicals affected civilization in a large way. This book is in a similar vein to The Botony of Desire which treats the human action of developing things such as apples and tulips and breeding them way beyond what nature had originally intended for our consumption. Truly great science book, hopefully Paul A. Offit, M.D. who at time of publication has six books to his name, will have the ambition to craft several more as he is a great sculptor of the landscape of science which is exactly what the world needs.
