Notes:
Richard Montgomery was born in Dublin, Ireland on December 2, 1738. He began his military career as a solider in the British Army. After leaving the British Army and moving to New York his sympathy for the American patriotic cause grew. In 1775 he became a delegate to the Provincial Congress and later on a Major General in the Continental Army. He is best known for his successful attack on Montreal but was killed on December 31, 1775 in a failed assault against Quebec that was coordinated with Benedict Arnold.
