Discover the Story of Bukharian Jews or Jews from Central Asia
Join us for a captivating evening exploring the rich history and vibrant culture of Bukharian Jews. Who are they? Where do they come from? What languages do they speak? How do they identify within the broader Jewish community?
The evening begins with a screening of the documentary The Jews Who Survived 2,500 Years in Isolation, presented by Unpacked Films. This powerful film offers an engaging overview of the Bukharian Jewish experience. Following the film, Zack Zav, a Bukharian Jew, will share personal insights and answer audience questions. Zack will also introduce exciting initiatives, including:
- Jewish Silk Road Tours in Queens – guided tours of the Bukharin Jewish community in Queens, NY. (with bakeries, museums, and restaurants)
- SAMi (Sephardic American Mizrahi Initiative) – a national organization dedicated to empowering Sephardic and Mizrahi college students (Jews with Central Asian, Middle Eastern, or North African backgrounds) across the U.S
Admission is free, but registration is required — arrive early to ensure your spot!
