Unite Health-Basic Knife Skills
Culinary Literacy Center at Parkway Central Library
Thank you for your interest in the Basic Knife Skills Training from the UNITE HERE Mid Atlantic Training and Scholarship Fund. This class is from 3-4 hours and can support a class size of 10-15 students. Students will leave with a basic understanding of knife safety in a kitchen, learn cutting techniques, and will demonstrate these cutting techniques. The key to safety and learning is repetition. Learning blocks for the class are below:
- Sanitation and set up
- Knife safety: handling, carrying, cutting, washing
- How to safely hand the knife to someone else
- Knife sharpening: how to hone with a steal
- Cutting techniques: small, medium and large dice cuts
- Cutting techniques: rough chopping, slicing, julienne, mincing
