Join the Free Library for Online Storytimes and Virtual Activities!

By Kate C. RSS Mon, March 23, 2020

**Upated to reflect new virtual programs on March 26 at 3:23 p.m.**

While we’re sad that our buildings are closed for now, our Free Library librarians and staff members are taking some of your favorite programs online until we can all get together in person again!

Check out some of the activities that are planned around our system, from online storytimes and crafts to cooking classes and meditation workshops, available from the comfort of your couch! Be sure to stay tuned to your neighborhood library or your favorite library department on social media, and check back here regularly for updates as more programs are added to the list.

The Fumo Family Library will be going Live on Facebook each morning at 10:00 a.m. for a variety of programs that will change daily, from storytimes and music to poems, chair yoga, and senior strength training exercises. Visit their page for more information!

The Queen Memorial Library will be hosting a picture book storytime on Facebook every day at 2:00 p.m.

Over at the Independence Library, Ms. Betsy is hosting three storytimes per week - Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 10 a.m. on Facebook!

The Philadelphia City Institute is continuing Cookbook Club on Facebook Groups, and they've launched the Philly Virtual Teen Writers Club through the library Facebook page!

The Parkway Central Children’s Department will be utilizing Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to bring you baby storytimes, Thursday Crafternoons, and middle-grade book talks.

The Culinary Literacy Center will be offering Facebook and Instagram tutorials on cooking basics and stocking a pantry, as well as cooking classes for kids and adults. They’ll also be trying out some virtual exercise programs through ULiftU, a partner through Healthy Communities, a grant-funded program by the Philadelphia Department of Health. More information to come!

Our friends at Author Events will be bringing you some previously scheduled conversations digitally, the first coming this week via Crowdcast. Stay tuned to their social media channels for the latest.

Meanwhile, our friends over at The Rosenbach are helping parents continue their children's education from home while schools are closed, posting curriculum-based lessons and hands-on activities for families with students in grades 3-12, to help them connect with The Rosenbach's extraordinary collection of historic letters and rare books. You can read more about online offerings on the Rosenblog.

If you’d rather work, read, or enjoy our resources at your own pace, they’re ready and waiting! Take advantage of the Free Library’s robust collection of digital resources that can be accessed anywhere with a library card, including ebooks, audiobooks, movies, TV, music, over 100 databases, and online courses from Mango Languages and Lynda.com from LinkedIn!
