Equally as bad as his 'book' on the River Wards - this one adds annoyingly repetitive captions to the authors list of sins. Did you know the Statue of William Penn on top of the tower is 37 feet tall? You'll read that tidbit a dozen times. How about the fact there used to be 552 light bulbs in the clock? Holmes will remind you 1/2 dozen times if you're foolish enough to read this yourself. Avoid this 'book' at all costs.

The captions are a bit heavy on factual detail about sizes and costs of the buildings, but otherwise enjoyable.          

Better paced and plotted than some of the previous entries in the series , with more well-realized secondary characters and fewer outrageous appeals to coincidence and Deus ex Machina to wrap up the story.

Classic Cussler again, combining cutting edge science and tech with a pair of historical prologues and damn fine adventure.

A useful guide to 'things that aren't there'. Better than more modern entries in the genre due to its larger format and more extensive and informative captions.

An excellent comparison book featuring photos of many prominent buildings and locations in Northeast Philadelphia from the past and as they are today.

From a historical standpoint, the best entry in this series so far, perhaps because of the professional nature of the authors?

A nice summer thriller with a historical hook that hasn't been beaten to death by overuse yet.

An uneven entry from the usually reliable Deaver. The same patterns of twists and intentionally misleading statements and conversations that you expect are here, and put to good use, but one of the 'shockers' comes right out of left field and derails the story with a few chapters of politically anti-conservative indulgence and undermines the entire tale.

A thin volume stitching together a week’s worth of menus based on and inspired by the Mary Poppins tales. The short story introduction is more for structure and an excuse for character cameos than for entertainment but the recipes themselves are interesting and I look forward to trying several of them.          

Combine Galaxy Quest, Zap Brannigan and Jasper Fforde and you get an approximation of Redshirts. Simultaneously ridiculous and existential, Scalzi's newest novel is not his best work but certainly not something to be avoided. A working knowledge of common sci-fi tropes would seem to be a prerequisite for reading it but honestly, if you don't already have a grounding in the material you wouldn't be inclined toy read it anyway.

Templars are Everywhere! Having already traversed Europe and Africa, Christopher moves his series to Cuba with this colorful and distracting volume.

Fast-paced and entertaining, I tore through this in a day. While starting with a standard treasure-hunt structure, a de-riguer orphan hero and a slightly clichéd evil corporate antagonist, Cline overcomes these uninspired building blocks with an original conceit that lets a futuristic sci-fi novel be flooded with late 20th century pop nostalgia.          

Creating vivid, moving, flawed charachters who invoke passion in the reader is a rare skill. To do so with such apparent ease as Cain does is downright magical.

Truly terrible. Unsourced and unsupportted assertions of fact; an entire chapter of masterbatory self-serving photos of interest to no one but the author and his friends; and an inexplicable lack of a map of the region being chronicled to give any kind of scale to the subject are three of the more grievous flaws.

Informative and accessible. An excellent overview of an under-examined historical niche.

Definitely a Guide or a catalog more than a history or a review. This is mainly a curiosity now that it is 40 years out of date more than it is a practical book.

A spot-on spin off from the TV series - impossible to read without hearing the character's voice in your head speaking every line. (This is a good thing as a professional voice actor is much better suited to monologuing than my own brain-voice is.)
