Caroline minuscule (verso
Language: Latin
Folio Number: ff. 146v-147r
Source: Rare Book Department
Notes: Opening with the beginning of the Gospel of John
Notes: This manuscript has been dated to ca. 1020.
Notes: This opening contains the beginning of John in an eleventh-century Gospel book. The decorated letter and text on the right-hand page are, however, much later. These were probably added in the fifteenth century to replace text from a damaged or missing page. This may have happened when the book was at the Carthusian Monastery at Sirck, the ex libris of which appears on the manuscript's first folio, written in a fifteenth-century hand. The script on the verso of f. 147r continues in minuscule.
