Notes:

This opening contains the Suffrages to St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Barbara, which are illustrated by miniatures of St. Catherine (left) and St. Barbara (right). St. Catherine is shown holding a book and a sword. Legend holds that St. Catherine tried to convince the Emperor Maximinus II to stop persecuting Christians. For this, she was tortured by being tied to a wheel, her usual attribute. St. Barbara's attribute, which she holds in her hands, is a small tower because her pagan father locked her away in a tower to preserve her from suitors. While in the tower, she converted to Christianity.
