Notes: This opening begins the sermons on the First Epistle of St. John by St. Augustine (354-430), bishop of the North African city of Hippo and one of the Doctors of the Church. Augustine wrote extensively on theological subjects. His sermons on John's first Epistle focus on the virtue of charity.
A previous owner, P. Pithou, has signed the book at the top of the recto of the second leaf. Elsewhere in the manuscript, Pithou noted that his purchase was made in 1613 in Troyes, France.
