Changing Death: A Panel Discussion on Culture and Acceptance
Laurel Hill Cemetery, 3822 Ridge Avenue, 215-228-8200
Explore how social practices, family roles, and attitudes toward death have changed over time, from the funeral rites of the Victorian era to the current “death-positivity” movement. An expert panel will discuss culture, rites, fear, and acceptance, featuring Evi Numen, death doula, artist, and curator; Michael Brooks, Laurel Hill Cemetery docent and former professor of Victorian literature; and Michelle Lasota, hospice nurse "with the purple hair." The event, inspired by the lens of grief and death in Another Brooklyn, will feature a walking tour of the cemetery and an exhibition of artist Caitlin McCormack’s sculpture work (pictured). The panel event is free with site admission and advance registration is required--click to register.
